Prepare your closet

When I was in school, this time of year was always my favorite.

I got to pick out a new outfit for the first day of school and show up feeling extra classy.

With Fall just around the corner, it seems like a time for new beginnings, whether you're heading back to school or not.

This week's sustainable Summer challenge is a twist on the tradition of a new first day of school outfit. Let's prepare your closet for Fall with the help of your local MCC Thrift shop.

Evaluate what you have

  • The change of seasons is a great reminder to examine your wardrobe. Pull out things that you don't wear, whether that's because they need a repair, they don't fit or you're just not a fan of them anymore.
  • Decide what to do with the items: can you repair a small hole or a missing button? Is there a new way you can style the piece you're tired of? If the clothes are in good shape and you simply don't wear them, donate them to your local MCC Thrift shop.

Find new-to-you pieces

  • Decide if there's anything you need to make your closet go further. Sometimes adding an accent item or a coordinating basic piece can create new outfits with what you already have.
  • Once you've decided what you need, try to keep your list broad. MCC Thrift inventory is constantly changing, so it's easier to search for "jeans" rather than being focused on "wide-leg, high-waisted, cropped jeans."

I'm sure you're going to look fantastic. Happy thrifting!
