Although it might not be time to break out the back-to-school shopping list just yet, it’s never too early to think about where you might shop.

This year, choose MCC Thrift for cost-effective, eco-friendly and unique back-to-school necessities for every age.

If you have a little one, the supplies can really start to add up. Between all the crayons, glue sticks and notebooks it sometimes feels like you could open your own craft store!

Thankfully, most MCC Thrift shops carry supplies like these for a fraction of the cost. Add in a thrifted backpack to hold it all, plus some sturdy sneakers for your kiddo and you’ll be pretty much set.

If your tween or teen is finding their personal style, let them express themselves at your local MCC Thrift shop. Secondhand clothes offer looks that can’t be found at the mall and are much better for our planet.

To get your teen involved, set a price limit and challenge them to find as many items on their list as possible. You’ll be surprised how far your budget goes.

If your young adult is ready to leave the nest, send them off to college or university with everything they need for a fully stocked dorm room or apartment, including furniture like couches and dining tables.

To keep the packing light, choose items that serve multiple purposes. Glass containers can store leftovers or fill in as a dinner plate in a pinch while duffle bags are perfect for move-in day, toting laundry or lugging around sports equipment. Don’t forget to label everything to avoid communal living mix-ups!

An extra tip for any age is to use the time between now and back-to-school season as an opportunity to go through last year’s items and pull out anything you no longer need. You can donate anything that’s in good shape to your local MCC Thrift shop. Your donation will help make a difference here at home and around the world by supporting Mennonite Central Committee’s work.
